A man suspected of raping a 10-year-old girl was arrested by police in Tagbilaran City as he attempted to flee the province on Wednesday.
Suspect Crisanto Udtohan, a 22-year-old Cebu native, was caught by police at the Tagbilaran port as he was about to board a boat bound for Cebu City.
Police said that the alleged rape of the girl, who is the daughter of Udtohan’s live-in partner in Causeway, Tagbilaran City, took place at 1p.m., hours prior to the arrest of the suspect.
A manhunt was launched against Udtohan following the victim’s report to police that she was raped by him after beating her up.
The victim narrated to police that she was brutally attacked by the suspect punching her in the left side of her face and stomach leaving her with a black eye and causing her to lose consciousness.
As she woke up, the victim reportedly felt severe pain in her private area which was bleeding prompting her to ask help from neighbors.

Police had the victim undergo an examination at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital while initial findings indicated that the victim may have been raped.
Authorities of the city police detained Udtohan at the Tagbilaran police lock-up jail pending the filing of charges against him. (WM)
