Seven percent or at least 90 people among the total number of drug personalities who surrendered to authorities in Talibon are need of medical intervention, said the town’s mayor.

According to Tailbon Mayor Restituto Auxtero, 90 of the 1,488 self-confessed drug personalities in the town are in need of treatment due to the severe effects of their long term drug use.

They have been identified as “high-risk” drug personalities whose dependency on the illegal substance can no longer be mitigated by a community-based drug rehabilitation program.

Auxtero said that this has prompted the local government unit of Talibon to look for funds which will be used to have the drug personalities admitted to a drug rehabilitation center.

The LGU’s move was made ahead of the establishment of a drug rehabilitation facility in Bohol which is projected to address the issue of having thousands of drug dependents across the province treated.

Meanwhile, drug personalities who passed the town’s drug rehabilitation program have been enrolled in skills training programs under the Technical Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

According to the mayor, the drug personalities are qualified to join the TESDSA program once they pass the daily community service and sports and worship activities implemented by the LGU.

Those who complete the program under the skills training center will be given national certificates 1 and 2 by the TESDA to help them find employment. (Allen Doydora)
