Police on Wednesday arrested a van-for-hire driver for alleged illegal possession of an improvised 12-gauge shotgun.

Suspect Analito Dapiton, a 35-year-old-native of Talibon, was arrested by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives at the Integrated Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran City.

CIDG policemen reportedly set up the operation against Dapiton after personnel of the Highway Patrol Group received reports on the alleged illegal gun possession of the suspect.

The operatives also confiscated from Dapiton live rounds for the homemade shotgun known locally as pugakhang.

A formal case has been filed against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Since the suspension of Oplan Tokhang and Project Double Barrel, the Philippine National Police has stepped up its campaign against loose firearms and other crimes. (Weli Maestrado)
