A 40-year-old Frenchman drowned while snorkeling off the Balicasag Island shore on Sunday at past 1 p.m. on Monday, according to Panglao police.
PO1 Rommel Villareal of the Panglao Police Station said that Maxim Waidas suddenly could not be found while he and his family were snorkeling in waters off the island.
Boatmen in the area searched for Waidas and at about 4 p.m. on the same day, found his lifeless body floating near the shore.
The boatmen were clueless on how Waidas ended up dead through drowning while his family were caught by surprise as the victim was a snorkeling buff.
Prior to the incident, another man was found dead due to drowning in Alicia.
Victim Antonio Bermoy, a native of San Vicente, Leyte who temporarily lived in Brgy. Cabatang, Alicia, was discovered lifeless in a creek.
According to police, Bermoy’s body was discovered by two boys of minor age at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Authorities also said that Bermoy had been missing since February 25. (Allen Doydora)
