It was a short-lived taste of freedom for one detainee of the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) who tried to escape from authorities.

Renato Dico, 31, bolted from jail guards’ custody at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday while attending a hearing on a rape charge filed against him but was recaptured 30 minutes later.

Dico, a resident of Clarin town, travelled some .4 kilometers from the Hall of Justice before he was subdued by policemen and jail guards near the Development Bank of the Philippines in Tagbilaran City.

According to BDJ warden Chief Insp. Felipe Montejo, Dico was escorted by three jail guards inside Branch 3, Hall of Justice when the incident happened.

Montejo said that Dico was not handcuffed as he was already inside the courtroom when he suddenly zoomed past the jail guards and exited theestablishment.

BDJ authorities and policemen in the area immediately ran after the fleeing detainee and were able corner him at 12:15p.m. on the same day.

Dico was transported back to the BDJ and detained at the facility pending an investigation on the incident. (Rey Tutas)
