An off-duty security guard of Isola di Francesco in Panglao was allegedly shot dead by his coworker who he alternated shifts with at the island, formerly Virgin Island, on Wednesday night.

Authorities identified the victim as Dalmacio Mari, 39, of Ubay, and the suspect as Albert Torreon, 26, of Talibon.

According to PO1 Mark Yana, the shooting incident happened at past 7 p.m. in the island, a place for reflection and meditation, due to an altercation involving the victim’s girlfriend.

Based on initial investigation, the argument erupted after Mari accused Torreon of texting his live-in partner.

Yana did not disclose the purported message’s content.

According to police, both were still able to momentarily patch things up as they shared a meal together.

However, minutes later, Mari reportedly dashed towards Torreon and tried to grab the latter’s service firearm but the suspect was able to evade and shoot the victim.

Police said that the Mari sustained gunshot wounds in his head and neck causing his instantaneous death.

Following the incident, Torreon voluntarily surrendered to responding policemen.

A murder complaint is set to be filed against the suspect, who remains in police custody, today. (Allen Doydora)
