Police in Catigbian have been placed on alert after a detained native of the town bolted from a provincial jail in Laguna along with five other inmates last Friday.

SPO2 Jacinto Renoblas of the Catigbian Police Station identified the Boholano escapee as Rio Mahilom, a native of Barangay Kauswagan of said town.

Mahilom who was held on an illegal possession of firearms charge and the other inmates launched their prison escape in broad daylight during visiting hours at the facility.

One of the six fugitives reportedly shot a jail guard as they bolted the provincial jail.

Authorities noted that Mahilom or one of his companions are likely to still be armed.

According to Renoblas, they are not discounting the possibility that Mahilom would return to his home in the village of Kauswagan.

The town’s police force now has a photo of the suspect but authorities have yet to distribute copies of it to the public.

Authorities are also looking into old files to verify if Mahilom had any prior records with the local police.

Meanwhile, police in Laguna immediately set up road blocks around the prison facility to intercept the six escapees. (Allen Doydora)
