A police officer who was dismissed for testing positive for illegal drug use was shot dead in broad daylight right outside his house in Trinidad on Thursday, police said.

Trinidad Police Station chief Sr. Inspector Marcos Lopez identified the victim as Wilbert Cutamora, a resident of Barangay Kinan-oan in said town.

According to Lopez, Cutamora was about to leave his house when motorcycle-riding men who rode in tandem suddenly approached him and shot him at past 12 p.m.

Both suspects alighted the vehicle as the gunman said “daghan na kag batal sa amoa” before shooting him again, twice in the head and multiple times across his body, said Lopez based on their investigation.

Cutamora who suffered multiple wounds, all from a 9mm firearm, was still rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Lopez raised the possibility that the murder of Cutamora was a drug-related incident based on the suspect’s statement to the victim.

He noted that Cutamora may have been in conflict with drug personalities even when he was still a policeman.

According to Lopez, Cutamora was a police officer 2 before he was dismissed from the service last year.

The dismissal was imposed against Cutamora after he tested positive for illegal drug use, Lopez added.  (Allen Doydora)
