A fisherman who allegedly peddled illegal drugs in islands off mainland Getafe and neighboring towns was arrested by police in a drug raid shortly past midnight on Saturday.

Suspect Raul Menguito, 40, a resident of Pandanon Island in Getafe allegedly yielded 15 packets of shabu during the raid at his home.

The operatives led by Getafe police chief Sr. Insp. Gereon Item raided Menguito’s home bearing a search warrant issued by Judge Azucena Macalolot-Credo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 52 in Talibon.

According to Item, the suspect operated in Getafe including its several islands and adjacent towns.

Manguito was noted to have ended his involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Recent police monitoring however indicated that his narcotics operation recently resumed, said Item.

Meanwhile, Item urged other drug personalities in the town to end their operations amid the police’s intensified drive against the drug trade.

Getafe particularly the island of Banacon was a hotbed for drug trade as it was the hideout of slain drug lord Rowen “Yawa” Secretaria.

Secretaria was killed in a police anti-drug operation in 2016 at his house in Barangay Banacon.

Since then, drug trade in the town started to slow down. (R. Tutas)
