Two men were arrested on Wednesday night in Maribojoc after they were allegedly caught in the act of collecting bets for illegal numbers game “swertres.”
The suspects were identified as Benjami Calipes, 38, and Florencio Acain, 46, both residents of Barangay Poblacion in Maribojoc.
According to police, both men were spotted taking swertres bets at the town’s public market.
Authorities immediately accosted the suspects and took them into custody.
Calipes and Acain were caught in possession of swertres paraphernalia and money believed to be from bettors, police said.
They are both detained at the Maribojoc police lock-up jail pending the filing of charges against them. (wm)
