The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to issue a work stoppage order on the construction of the Alturas Group of Company’s three-story commercial building in Tagbilaran City after it partially collapsed on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and two injured.

According to DOLE Bohol provincial director Lilia Estillore, their office started to conduct an investigation on the incident and will issue an order to suspend the construction.

The department intervened as three workers were affected by the incident, Estillore said.

“We are doing accident investigation and will issue stoppage order,” she said in a text message to the Chronicle.

During the incident on Wednesday afternoon, construction worker Hilbert Morales was killed as he was pinned down by trusses and concrete after a beam of the under-construction structure suddenly collapsed.

Two other construction workers, William Apatan and Christopher Catigtig, remained in the hospital where they continued to be treated for their injuries including bruises and broken bones.

Both the Alturas Group and contractor Dakay Construction Company have yet to issue statements regarding the incident.

For his part, Tagbilaran City Councilor Dodong Gonzaga said that the Sangguniang Panglungsod has summoned officials of the construction firm, the Office of the Building Official and City Engineering Office to appear before the council on its regular session on Friday to explain possible causes for the fatal incident.

Fire Officer 2 Dennis Caluna of the Tagbilaran City Fire Station earlier said that fire authorities have started to coordinate with the TaRSIER 117 and other agencies in conducting investigations on the case. (Allen Doydora)
