A 38-year-old man was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman in Corella on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The fatality identified as Arnold Paler, a resident of Barangay Malayo Norte, Cortes, sustained a gunshot wound in his head and died on the spot.
According to PO1 Christopher Ramirez of the Corella Police Station, the assailant who had his faced covered with a mask and was accompanied by three other unidentified suspects shot Paler in Barangay Anislag.
The four suspects were riding two motorcycles with the gunman as passenger on one of the vehicles.
Paler was asking around the village looking for a certain “Fermin” when one of the suspects shot at him causing him to fall, said Ramirez based on their initial probe.
The gunman then alighted the motorcycle and shot Paler again at close range.
Ramirez said that residents in the area were not able to identify any of the suspects who were all wearing masks and who fled the area immediately after the shooting.
He said that investigators found two spent shells fired from .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
According to Ramirez, Corella police are still facing a blank wall as to the motive and identity of the suspects.
They however were told by the Cortes police that Paler previously surrendered under Oplan Tokhang. (A. Doydora)
