A noted burglar and his wife were killed in a shooting incident allegedly carried out by two motorcycle-riding gunmen who rode in tandem in Tagbilaran City at past 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to PO2 Alvin Torente of the Tagbilaran police, the fatalities, identified as Mark Saavedra, 36, and his wife Denise, 27, were on board a moving delivery van of the M & D Enterprises, a Baclayon-based laundry shop owned by the couple, with their three-year-old son during the gun attack along CPG East Avenue in Barangay Bool.
The boy was unharmed while Denise was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital where she later succumbed to her injury.
Mark who was driving the vehicle during the attack died on the spot.
Police said that Mark sustained two gunshot wounds in the left side of his neck and face causing his instantaneous death.
Denise meanwhile was hit in the neck with a bullet that went through Mark’s head.
Residents told the authorities that they heard two gunshots and saw the gunmen flee towards downtown Tagbilaran.
The motorcycle appeared to have no license plate, residents said.
According to PO3 Noel Lopos of the Tagbilaran City police theft and robbery section, a warrant of arrest was earlier issued against Mark for burglaries allegedly carried out in Tagbilaran City.
Mark was originally from Zamboanga, said Lopos.
He changed his name to Mark Saavedra from Roel Diaz when authorities started to go after him.
According to PO2 Alvin Florente who is conducting the probe on the case, investigators are still facing a blank wall as to the motive of the fatal shooting. (Weli Maestrado and Allen Doydora)
