Jagna Mayor Fortunato “Bic-Bic” Abrenilla has died at the age of 69.
Abrenilla died of cardiac arrest at the Teodoro Galagar District Hospital in Jagna at 1 a.m. on Monday according to reports gathered by Bernard Condor of dyRD Balita.
He was admitted to the hospital on Friday last week after experiencing cough for eight straight days and was no longer discharged prior to his death.
His remains will lie in state at his family’s ancestral home in Barangay Pagina, Jagna.
Abrenilla was serving his last term as Jagna mayor and was running for vice mayor of the town.
He will be replaced as town chief executive by incumbent Vice Mayor Bonifacio Vertudez Jr.
According to Atty. Ariel Selma of the Commission on Elections, Abrenilla may be replaced by an individual with the same surname for his vice-mayoral bid during the May polls.
Prior to being a mayor, Abrenilla was an official for the National Economic Development Authoritiy. (ad)
