A bakeshop employee, who was accused of stealing a cellphone, was allegedly hacked to death in Loay town by a man believed to be suffering from a mental condition.

The fatality, identified as Ruben Miasco, 27, of Lungsoda-an in Candijay, died on the spot inside the Loay Fishport at past 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

“Nisagang pa kuno ning biktima pero nangaputol ang tudlo unya natigbasan g’yud ang liog, gamay nalang kuwang para maputol nagbitay na,” said PO2 Jessen Valmoria of the Loay Police Station.

According to Valmoria, the suspect, 20-year-old Elmer Cajagas of Leyte accused Miasco of stealing his cellphone leading to a confrontation between the two.

“Nanghuwam kuno tong suspek og charger sa biktima unya mao tong naka charge siya. Unya pagbalik niya kay wa naman diha ang cellphone, charger naman kuno nabilin mao tong ang una kuno niyang gidudahan way lain, ang biktima,” said Valmoria.

Cajagas, amid the confrontation, then allegedly used a cleaver to hack Miasco who denied stealing the cellphone.

Valmoria said that Cajagas immediately fled the crime scene but was arrested by police inside a cemetery in Loay at 4 a.m. on the same day.

Police meanwhile did not recover a cellphone in Miasco’s possession nor was it found by the suspect after the grisly incident.

Cajagas is now under the custody of the Loay Police Station pending the filing of appropriate charges against him. (Allen Doydora)
