A 30-year-old man who believed that someone was out to kill him while onboard an Ubay-bound ferry from Cebu City jumped off the vessel mid sea, police said.
The man, identified as Mourly Ceballos, 30, of Labangon in Cebu City dived into waters off Barangay Achila in Ubay at past 1 a.m. on Wednesday, said Ubay Police Station commander Chief Insp. Jacinto Mandal, Jr.
“Ingon tong mga taga barko nga bag-o siya milukso mi-ingon daw nga nay mogukod niya kay patyon siya. Mi conduct sila [crew] og investigation pero wala man nagpatuo mao to nga ning lukso g’yud,” he said.
Ceballos jumped from the M/V J&N Carrier just over 150 meters away from the Ubay port. He however was still not found by authorities as of Thursday.
According to Mandal who is a technical diver, they continued search and rescue operations as Ceballos could still be alive.
Crew members of the vessel tried to rescue Ceballos right after he leaped but was unable to find him due to darkness in the area.
Police investigators meanwhile continued their probe on the case.
“Di pa ta ka ingon og unsa to siya kung adik ba o naa bay deperensya kay wa man pod ta kita niya personally,” Mandal said. (A. Doydora)
