A 61-year-old man in Trinidad was killed after he was accidentally run over by a water tanker of a local government unit (LGU) which responded to a fire in an adjacent town of Talibon on Monday morning.

The fatality, identified as Marcial Estoce suddenly crossed a national road in Barangay Soom, Trinidad while the water tanker of the Ubay LGU was headed back to its headquarters in Ubay town, said Trinidad police chief Sr. Insp. Rofu Potane.

Estoce was still rushed to the Don Emilio Del Valle Memorial Hospital in Ubay but succumbed to his injuries at night on the same day.

According to Potane, the water tanker was passing through Trinidad after it was deployed to Talibon where a fire gutted a building, a house and partially damaged a pension house.

Meanwhile, the driver of the water tanker surrendered to the Trinidad Police Station immediately after the accident.

The victim’s family and the driver however reached an amicable settlement.
