Maribojoc man falls at Mandaue checkpoint for drug, gun charges

A 39-year-old native of Maribojoc, Bohol was arrested at a Mandaue City police checkpoint after caught in possession of illegal drugs and two unlicensed firearms at past midnight on Saturday last week, police said.

Staff Sgt. Arthur Cuyos of the Mandaue Centro Police Station told dyRD Balita that the suspect, identified as Erwin Ilano was riding a taxi as a passenger when police searched the vehicle and found the contraband in his possession along Zuelig Street, Centro.

Ilano was seen hiding his bag while the taxi neared the checkpoint, raising suspicion among police officers.

Cuyos said that Llano was asked to alight from the vehicle and open his bag. Police then found inside the knapsack a .380 caliber pistol with one full magazine, and a fully loaded .38 caliber revolver.

Three packets of medium-sized sachets allegedly containing shabu were also found in his possession, Cuyos added.

Ilano was charged with violations against Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and the Commission on Elections gun ban.

He was later released from jail after he posted bail for his temporary liberty.  (A. Doydora)
