Woman chokes ‘abusive’ husband to death in Clarin

A man previously charged with child abuse against his children was choked to death by his wife following a heated argument between the two in Clarin town at past 7 p.m. on Friday, police said.

The suspect, 40-year-old Elena Arong, who immediately surrendered to barangay authorities following the incident, is facing a parricide charge.

According to Corporal Romel Garcia of the Clarin Police Station, victim Victoriano Arong, 47, was drunk during the incident.

He allegedly shot at Elena using an improvised shotgun (sumpak) but missed prompting her to retaliate and choke him inside their home.

She allegedly did not stop choking him until he lost consciousness.

“Pagpusil aning biktima nakalikay pod ning iyang asawa mao tong nahawiran, unya medyo gamayon man pod ning victoriano mao tong mura siguro nalupig sa kusog kay hubog man pod ning biktima,” said Garcia.

Garcia said that Victoriano was already unresponsive when they arrived and was later declared dead on the spot by a municipal health office physician.

According to Garcia, the victim was previously arrested for violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children.

Victoria was accused of repeatedly maltreating his three children when he got drunk. (A. Doydora)
