Two male teenagers on Wednesday night died of injuries following a collision between their motorcycle and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by the son of the mayor of Loboc town.
The fatalities identified as Niño Diwang, 18, and Marlon Ambi, 18, both of Dagohoy town, died on the spot after the collision in Barangay Bil-isan, Panglao, said Patrolman Gerard Rollon.
Leo Calipusan, 44, son of Loboc Mayor Leon Calipusan, was detained by police pending the decision of the victims’ family to whether or not file a case against him.
Rollon, based on witnesses’ statements, said that the motorcycle was speeding and counterflowing along a national road in Bil-isan prior to the collision.
Calipusan, who was driving a Nissan Terra, told police that he noticed the incoming motorcycle at his lane and tried to dodge the vehicle but it still slammed straight into his SUV.
According to Rollon, both Diwang and Ambi were not wearing helmets during the incident.
They were no longer rushed to a hospital for treatment as Panglao rescuers declared them dead on the spot.
Calipusan’s SUV was severely damaged but he did not sustain any injury. (AD)
