Police and local government unit emergency responders continued their rescue operation amid rains after a man was pinned down inside a truck which fell off the Makapiko Bridge in Batuan on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
According to Corporal Julius Celerio of the Batuan Police Station, three other men who were on board the truck and suffered severe injuries were rushed to the Cong. Simeon G. Toribio Memorial Hospital.
Authorities however have not yet identified the victims including the man left inside the crashed vehicle.
“Four sakay, naay usa na wa pa makuha kay nadat-ugan sa sakyanan og kahoy. Mura’g serious na g’yud to iyahang pagka-ipit sa ilaw’m. Wala pay maka-identify kung kinsa ang driver,” said Celerio.
Celerio said that the truck which was carrying mahogany lumber was seen barreling down the downhill area near the partly completed bridge in Barangay Rizal.
The vehicle hit a parked motorcycle before it fell off the bridge.
“According sa atoang investigation kusog ni siya gapaambog. Before ka mosulod sa tulay, ambugon na siya. Unya ga ongoing pa ang construction, naay part na one way. Kaning bag-ong tulay gipaagian na pero naay part na one way,” said Celerio.
The vehicle fell down some 10 meters below the bridge but it did not reach the Makapiko River.
Authorities are still confirming the condition of the other victims who were rushed to the hospital.
