Jane De Leon who is poised to become a big star as she is set to take on the role of the iconic Filipina superhero Darna showed that she has a big heart.
De leon, who traces her roots to Bohol, shined brighter than the rest of the attendees of the star-studded ABS-CBN Ball 2019 as she won the event’s Belo Beauty on the Rise award and then decided to donate her prize money.
Her prize will instead be given to the ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Bata 163.
“I really want to help Bantay Bata especially Bantay Edukasyon para makatulong talaga na matapos ‘yung pag-aaral nila. It’s really important kasi mga bata ‘yan eh—nangangarap ‘yan. Hindi natin alam kung nasaan ‘yung mga magulang nila, at kung ano ‘yung mga gusto nilang gawin para sa buhay nila in the future. Mas maganda na maging ehemplo tayo para mas makatulong sa kanila,” she was quoted as saying by Metro.Style.
The ball which is an annual gathering of ABS-CBN’s stars donates its proceeds to the network’s Bantay Bata 163, a brainchild of the late Gina Lopez who was then the ABS-CBN Foundation’s managing director.
The event also gave out five other awards which were won by Chie Filomeno (Ever Bilena Red Carpet Stunner), Maymay Entrata (Belo Belle of the Ball), Richard Gutierrez (Metro Best Dressed Male), Bea Alonzo (Metro Best Dressed Female) and Richard Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati (Couple of the Night).
ABS-CBN however has not made public the amount of the prizes for the awardees.
De Leon was born in Quezon City and grew up in San Pedro, Laguna but traces roots to Bohol from her maternal ancestry.
Her mother, Maricor “Hearty” Benitez-De Leon, was born and raised in Barangay Ubujan, Tagbilaran City.
