Man hacked to death by cousin in Loon

A 28-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death with a bolo by his cousin following a heated argument between the two in Loon.

The fatality, identified as Ariel Becona, of Barangay Nueva Vida in Loon who sustained five hack wounds in the head died on the spot, said Corporal Jackson Guadalquiber of the Loon Police Station.

According to Guadalquiber, Becona and the suspect, Joel Jamil, 45, were drinking and making coal when they figured in an argument which led to the fatal hacking incident outside the victim’s residence on Monday morning.

Becona challenged Jamil to a fist fight but the latter kept on refusing until he grabbed a bolo and allegedly hacked his cousin.

“Gagama to sila og uling, galingaw-lingaw unya ga kanta-kanta pa unya taod-taod ang iyang mama nakadunog na diha nay galalis pero wa ra tagda kay naanad na siya na mag-away, lalis unya mag-uli ra,” said Guadalquiber.

Jamil fled the area following the incident while police were immediately alerted.

Guadalquiber said that they found and arrested Jamil at a neighbor’s house an hour after the incident.

Jamil was detained at the Loon Police Station and charged with murder on Wednesday morning. (A. Doydora)
