A 71-year-old man who almost had his body torn in half died in a freak vehicular accident in Tagbilaran City on Monday afternoon.

Report from the Tagbilaran City Police Station revealed that Silverio Sampilingan of Barangay Ubujan in Tagbilaran City was run over by a cement mixer truck along H. Zamora Street in Tagbilaran City.

Police said that Samilingan who was driving a motorcycle tried to overtake the truck but suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

Samilingan was thrown towards the truck owned by PT Bohol Construction which consequently ran over him.

He was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City where he was treated for his injuries.

He however died just several minutes after reaching the health facility.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, Eduardo Madelo, 37, of Alicia town was detained at the Tagbilaran City Police Station.

He is set to be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and property damage. (wm)
