One man was killed while another was critically injured following a drunken knife fight between the two men in Bien Unido town on Thursday night.
The fatality identified as Ronnie Bon, 42, of Barangay Poblacion, Bien Unido who was stabbed seven times was declared dead on arrival after he was rushed to the Don Emilio Del Valle Memorial Hospital in Ubay.
According to Corporal Jezrel Nuera of the Bien Unido Police Station, Bon was a notorious drunk in his village known for picking fights when he got intoxicated.
“Magmaoy ni siya og makainom,” Nuera said.
Bon, Vincent Tuluna, 30, and several others were in a drinking spree when the knife fight broke out.
Nuera said that Bon in the middle of the drinking session suddenly stabbed Tuluna who was lying on a wooden furniture hitting him in the chest and hand.
Tuluna however was still able to grab the knife and stab Bon multiple times.
“Pag-ilog, nahinaykan g’yud niya og bawos og dunngab, upat sa likod ug tulo sa atubangan mao toy hinungdan sa iyang [Bon] kamatayon,” Nuera said.
Investigators have yet to determine the reason why Bon stabbed Tuluna first but have noted that it may have been due to intoxication as he was known for being a violent drunk.
Meanwhile, Tuluna was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City where he continued to be treated for his injuries as of Friday morning. (A. Doydora)
