A man who previously sexually abused his daughter was fatally shot while he was sleeping at the terrace of his home by a still unidentified gunman in Inabanga on Tuesday night.

The fatality Vicente Abadingo, 50, of Barangay Dagohoy in Inabanga who was shot four times across his body was still rushed to the Francisco Dagohoy Memorial Hospital in the town but was declared dead on arrival at 10:05 p.m., just over 30 minutes after the shooting, said Senior Staff Sgt. Collins Cagatin of the Inabanga Police Station.

According to Cagatin, there were no witnesses when Abadingo was gunned down but the victim’s neighbors heard gunshots at about 9:30 p.m.

Abadingo was still able to crawl towards his 12-year-old son inside the house and wake him up. The boy then asked for help from their neighbors and the village chief who in turn alerted the police.

“Wa siya [anak] kadungod sa buto, diha na siya kamata pagpukaw sa iyang amahan, nangayo og [tabang] sa kasakit,”he said. “Pag abot sa mga responding officer buhi pa ni, maong gipadali og da sa hospital.”

Police have pinpointed a person of interest in the shooting based on statements made by the victim’s family and neighbors which Cagatin however described as still “hearsay.”

Investigators were also still continuing their probe to determine the motive behind the fatal attack.

According to Cagatin, Abadingo was incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City after he was convicted of an acts of lasciviousness charge for sexual abuse against his daughter early in the decade.

Abadingo has 11 children, some of them including his victim are in Cebu and Carlos P. Garcia town.

Meanwhile, Abadingo’s son who was with him when he was shot dead was turned over to his estranged wife. (C. Remolador)
