A 70-year-old foreigner was found dead Tuesday night, June 21, 2016, in an apparent suicide by hanging himself using an electric cable in Barangay Bay-Ang, Ubay.
According to the initial police investigation, the body of Japanese national Minora Miyata was found in a pigpen that he owned located near his residence in Purok 4 of the said barangay.
Before allegedly killing himself, Miyata reportedly burned his own house down using straw and other light materials.
According to SPO2 Roger Abad, Ubay Police Station investigator, the victim’s wife of four years Nida Cantena left him which could have been the cause behind the foreigner’s apparent suicide.
Before the incident, the victim reportedly visited his in-laws in Barangay Fatima of the same town.
Miyata was already ailing after his wife left him according to people who knew the victim.
He had already tried to take his life and also burn his house down three years ago but did not succeed, Abad said.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection in Ubay estimated the damages of the victim’s burned house at P1.5 million.
Police will continue to conduct an investigation to determine if there was foul play involved in Miyata’s death. (with reports from Rey Tutas)
