The local government of Getafe ensured accessible livelihood for drug personalities who yielded to authorities in the town in efforts to permanently end their involvement in illegal drug activities.

Getafe Mayor Casey Shawn Camacho told DYRD Balita that part of the initiative is to provide technical education to drug personalities still willing to attend school.

Meanwhile, the officer-in-charge of the Bohol Provincial Office Supt. Eduardo Saavedra organized a seminar for drug addicts and pushers in the town, warning them of the hazards of drug use.

Almost 800 drug personalities in the town surrendered to the police and vowed before Camacho inside the Sr. Sto Nino Church to cut involvement in illegal drug activities based on reports from town authorities.

According to Camacho, drug activities in the town plummeted by 90% since the killing of big-time Central Visayas drug lord Rowen “Yawa” Secretaria and the implementation of Oplan Tokhang.

At least 100 of the estimated number of pushers and users who surrendered in the town are from the island-barangay of Banacon, Secretaria’s hideout in Getafe, Camacho said.

While hundreds have surrendered, police in Getafe continue to track and identify remaining drug personalities in the town. (with reports from Rey Tutas)
