The Tagbilaran City Council is expected to intervene and come up with solutions to the city Philippine Ports Authority’s (PPA) longstanding struggle against errant tricycle drivers operating in the port area.

Councilor Philip Besas suggested to invite PPA manager Engr. James Gantalao to a session of the city council in efforts to draw up measures that would finally resolve the problem on erring tricycle drivers.

The recurring issue has already raised concern among members of the city council, particularly on cases of tricycle drivers overcharging boat passengers, said Besas who heads the committee on energy, public utilities, franchise and transportation.

Gantalao previously told DYRD Balita the agency’s plan to suspend permits of tricycle units which have drivers who continue to violate the PPA’s rules and regulations.

The PPA will tap fastcraft companies to provide shuttle buses for boat passengers’ transportation if the plan pushes through, he said.

While Besas expressed his support for the said measure, the city legislator also suggested that a thorough assessment to pinpoint errant tricycle drivers should be undertaken to spare those who have not violated PPA rules.

He noted that if tricycle drivers continue unscrupulous practices, the PPA’s proposed measure would be the next sensible solution. (Allen Doydora)
