Bohol ranked second among areas in Central Visayas in terms of drug personalities who surrendered to authorities under Oplan Tokhang and Project Double Barrel.

The province tallied 31,122 drug “surenderees”, comprising 42% of Region 7’s total record of 73,406 self-confessed drug personalities, said Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director.

Taliño told DYRD Balita on Friday that the figures are based on data gathered until Thursday, September 22, 2016.

Bohol closely followed Cebu in the ranking as the neighboring province recorded 33,099 drug personalities who yielded to authorities.

Meanwhile, Cebu City recorded 4,709 and Mandaue City 2,051 drug surenderees, ranking 3^rd and 4^th, respectively.

Lapu-lapu City received the surrender of 1,609 drug personalities while the province of Siquijor received 806 during the same period.

Taliño noted that the number of drug personalities who have been arrested will also continue to rise amid the sustained daily anti-drug operations in the region.

The director of the Cebu-based PRO-7 said that the figures being posted by the police are a testament to the Duterte administration’s firm stand against illegal drug activities.

In the same interview with DYRD Balita, Taliño urged local government units (LGU) to do their part in the nation’s drive against illegal drugs, particularly by putting up rehabilitation centers.

He said that this would be crucial in the reformation of drug users who have already surrendered to authorities, noting that without efforts from LGUs, drug-linked individuals would continue engaging in illegal activities. (Allen Doydora)
