Despite having been badly hit by the El Niño phenomenon, Balilihan and its farmers pushed through in organizing the two-day Agro Fair 2016 which highlights the town’s 188th foundation day on Thursday.

According to Mayor Pureza Chatto, the effects of the severe drought that plagued the province earlier this year did not deter farmers from joining the annual fair and displaying their harvests.

Chatto said that Balilihan, which is in an agricultural town, was severely affected by the El Niño phenomenon that lasted for several months and had placed Bohol under a state of calamity.

However, the number and quality of agricultural products displayed by Balilihan farmers during the Agro Fair 2016 were at par with those in previous years, Chatto added.

The fair, which started Wednesday, was attended by the mayor’s husband Governor Edgar Chatto, Vice Governor Dionisio Balite and Bohol’s board members.

During the event, the Alsa Droga in Balilihan was also launched and joined by police officers and drug personalities who have surrendered through Oplan Tokhang. (Allen Doydora)
