A female cashier at Unitop in Tagbilaran City was arrested after she was allegedly caught stealing from the said store on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as Ailene Ceridon Ungay, a 20-year-old resident of Gallares St. Tagbilaran City, reportedly stole clothes worth P1,084.
Authorities recovered from Ungay’s stash a suit jacket, a blazer, a tank top and a picture frame that had a payment receipt.
The head guard of Unitop, Ursula Butlig, said that the suspect asked a bagger of the store to take the stolen items outside the establishment.
But Butlig was able to intercept the bagger as the stolen items set off the alarm of the store’s detector system.
The incident was recorded on a closed-circuit television camera footage which showed that the items were kept below the cashier’s table while the picture frame which was being paid for by a customer was later on sneaked into the stash.
A criminal complaint for qualified theft is being prepared against Ungay who is currently detained at the Tagbilaran City lock-up jail. (Wellie Maestrado)
