Southern Star bus drivers are being harassed by other transport operators and drivers in Panglao, according to an official of the bus company.

Southern Star manager German Avenido said that their drivers are being harassed due to the entry of Ceres into Panglao which, according to operators of smaller transport groups, has affected their livelihood.

Avenido said that Ceres bus drivers were intimidated while some of their units were stoned when these plied routes also being serviced by other transport groups in Panglao.

The alleged attacks have prompted Ceres to seek the assistance from the Panglao government in protecting drivers of the bus company.

Avenido made it clear that Ceres will not stop its operations in Panglao even amid said threats as he noted that many Panglao residents are in need of their services.

The Ceres official said that their Panglao operation is not illegal contrary to accusations of other operators who signed a petition against the bus company’s route in the town.

He said that the Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and Panglao LGU have permitted the bus company to operate in the municipality. (Allen Doydora)
