A tourist van driver was killed while over 12 people were injured in two accidents including a consequent head-on collision between an ambulance transporting two victims and a truck on Wednesday.
The fatality, Noel Cuajao, 46, was being transported while still alive to Tagbilaran City on board the ill-fated ambulance after the van he was driving smashed into a bus in Barangay Bon-bon Loboc past 3 p.m.
While zooming through Loay from Loboc, the ambulance reportedly collided head-on with a Canter truck as both vehicles attempted to overtake cars in front of them.
The collision apparently aggravated Cuajao’s and the other victim’s injuries while ambulance driver Rodolfo Lim and rescuers Jeremy Lim, Jose Alito Requeron and Christian Lito Sanchez were also severely hurt.
The said victims and the opposing truck’s driver and passenger Romulo and Victoria Lagura were rushed to a hospital in Tagbilaran City.
However, Cuajao succumbed to his injuries at 8 p.m. on the same day.
Prior to the Loay incident, Cuajao, a Baclayon resident, was driving a Toyota Hi-ace heading towards Tagbilaran City when it collided into an Eagle Trans bus driven by Sergio Baja, 59, Loboc police said.
According to authorities, the collision took place at a sharp curve in Barangay Bonbon, Loboc.
The bus’s passengers only suffered minor cuts and bruises while Cuajao and his front seat passenger were severely injured.
Other passengers of the van identified as Grace Ela Aguila, 35; Alan Rex Mogul, 36; Victoria Aguila, 59; Lilibeth Pablio, 57; Florisse Pablio, 35; Gil Aguila, 63; Lorna Evangelista, 70; and Anita Mogul, 65, were also taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Cuajao’s family expressed intent to file charges against the bus and truck drivers, Romulo Lagura and  Baja. (A. Doydora)
