Weather disturbance Vinta further intensified into a typhoon in the wee hours of Sunday as it continued to move westward nearing the boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of 145 kph, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Weather specialist Samuel Duran in PAGASA’s 5 a.m. report said that the typhoon is projected to leave the PAR between 5 a.m to 8 a.m. today.

Vinta was located at 355 km South Southeast of Pagasa Island, Palawan.

It slightly sped up moving west at 25 kph, said Duran.

All tropical cyclone warning signals across the country have been lifted except in southern Palawan where Storm Signal Number 1 remained raised.

“Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 over Northern Palawan has been lifted” but “sea travel remains risky over the western seaboard of Palawan due to the typhoon,” said PAGASA.
