A man landed in the hospital and was treated for two stab wounds allegedly inflicted by his own cousin.
The suspect, Leo Eugenio Blanco Labis, 37, will be charged with frustrated homicide.
Labis was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol when he stabbed victim Paul “Apple” Mejorada, 35, inside their family’s compound in Barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran Cityon on Tuesday night.
The attack was allegedly unprovoked.
Based on initial police investigation, Mejorada and Labis figured in a fistfight prior to the stabbing.
The victim was reportedly asking who was responsible for causing his tenant’s motorcycle to fall to its side when he was confronted by the suspect.
Mejorada sustained a stab wound in his back and stomach, police said.
He was immediately rushed to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital for medical attention while Labis fled the crime scene.
The Tagbilaran City Special Weapons and Tactics unit was deployed to conduct a hot pursuit operation but the suspect later on voluntarily surrendered to authorities.
Labis is now detained at the Tagbilaran lock-up jail awaiting the criminal complaint to be filed against him. (W. Maestrado)
