Some male police officers in Bohol, along with cops in the rest of the region, shaved their heads to honor then-Senior Supt. Dennis Agustin who has been promoted to chief superintendent which is equivalent to a one-star general in the military.

According to Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) director Sr. Supt. Angeles Geñorga, the region-wide homage to Agustin was made through the encouragement of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas.

“Galing kay regional director. Pero hindi naman talaga utos…Na-promote kasi si general Agustin, kung baga parang pag-congratulate sa kanya,” said Geñorga who noted that he himself also had his head shaved.

Agustin who was previously assigned in Bohol as the province’s police chief is known to regularly sport a shaved look.

Geñorga said that many officers, even those assigned to police stations in municipalities, responded to Sinas’ call and shaved their heads despite the move not being an official mandate.

The move was also carried out to show solidarity among the ranks of the PRO-7.

“Di naman pwersahan to. Parang show of solidarity pero ang nag-trigger neto ang promotion in general Agustin. Nagka-challenge lang parang ‘sige nga, pa-opaw nga…’parang verbal challenge lang ito,” said Geñorga.

Agustin is currently the deputy director for administration of the PRO-7.

As BPPO director from 2013 to 2016, he led a crusade against illegal drugs in Bohol long before President Duterte was elected as the highest ranking official in the country and launched his nationwide anti-drug campaign. (Rey Tutas)
