The plant seized from a Swiss man in Panglao last week was not marijuana, police said.

According to PO3 Gregorio Perocho of the Panglao Police Station, Switzerland native Maik Kruesi, 32, was released from detention on Friday immediately after test results from the police crime lab indicated that the plant confiscated from him was not marijuana.

The plant was examined twice and both yielded negative results, said Perocho.

However, authorities have yet to figure out what plant species was seized from Kruesi.

Kruesi who was apprehended Thursday at his apartment in Barangay Danao, Panglao had initially told authorities that he was unaware of what type of plant he was in possession of.

He said that the two-foot plant which appeared to be marijuana grew from seedlings given to him by a friend.

The arrest was made against Kruesi after his neighbors reported to police that he was displaying a marijuana plant in plain sight outside his apartment.

Meanwhile, the case filed against Kruesi before the prosecutor’s office has been dismissed. (A. Doydora)
