A mini dump truck which was driven by a drunk driver slammed straight into an incoming 18-wheeler truck along a national road in Cortes town on Saturday night, police said.

No one was injured following the head-on collision, said Sergeant Joel Orapa of the Cortes Police Station.

According to Orapa, the mini dump truck which was driven by Victor Layo, 34, of Balilihan was zigzagging along the national highway before it rammed the other truck at the opposite lane.

“Kining mini dump truck proceeding to the direction of Balilihan ning encroach sa opposite lane, didto sa lane sa 18-wheeler then ang 18-wheeler nakabantay man siya na zigzag ang pag travel sa mini dump mao ming full stop siya, mao pag stop siya maoy nadasmagan,” said Orapa.

Witnesses noted that that they already noticed the dump truck as it was crisscrossing along the highway prior to the collision.

Orapa confirmed that Layo was drunk, saying that he had to be restrained by doctors at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital as he ran amok due to his intoxication.

Meanwhile, the driver of the 18-wheeler truck, identified as Rio Golodo of Tagbilaran City was uninjured and was allowed by police to leave with his vehicle although it was severely damaged.

Both drivers had no passengers on board.

Orapa noted that had there been passengers on board, they could have been severely injured, if not killed as the impact was centered at the side of the vehicles’ respective front passenger seats.
