An 18-year-old woman died in an alleged hit-and-run incident after the motorcycle she was on was sideswiped by a commuter bus along a national highway in Barangay San Vicente,Trinidad on Sunday night.
The driver of the motorcycle, James Mirontos, 19, reported to police that they were hit by an overtaking unit of the Southern Star Bus Transit, Inc. (SSBTI) which sped away after the collision.
His girlfriend, Krisha Reyes, 18, who was his passenger was taken to a hospital in Talibon and later referred to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City but was declared dead on arrival.
“Nagsunod kuno ni sila unya pag overtake sa Ceres, ingon sa driver [Mirontos] na nasaghiran siya maong nabalintong siya,” said Master Sgt. Jerefer Cajes of the Trinidad Police Station.
After a three-day investigation, Police Corporal Shiela Nuera on Wednesday morning identified the bus driver as Angelo Omac, 42.
Nuera said no charges will be filed against Omac and SSBTI after the bus firm and the victim’s family reached an amicable settlement.
The bus firm also noted that Omac did not notice that he had sideswiped Mirontos’ motorcycle.
It was earlier noted that Reyes, who was not wearing a helmet when they crashed, suffered severe injuries to the head.
Mirontos meanwhile only sustained minor wounds and scratches as he was wearing a helmet. (A. Doydora)
