Signal No. 1 raised over Bohol as ‘Tisoy’ intensifies

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was hoisted over Bohol on Monday night as Typhoon Tisoy further intensified and continued its westward movement.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its 8 p.m bulletin said that Tisoy was expected to make landfall over Sorsogon in the next three hours.

According to PAGASA, Tisoy, based on all available data including the Virac Doppler Radar, was last spotted 90 km east of Juban, Sorsogon.

It has maximum sustained winds of up to 165 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h, up from 155 km/h and 190 km/h, respectively, in the afternoon.

Tisoy also sped up to 20 km/h from 15 km/h as it continued to travel westward.

The typhoon is expected to be in the vicinity of Abra De Ilog on Tuesday afternoon and 345 km West of Iba, Zambales on Wednesday afternoon.

It is not forecast to directly hit Bohol.

Sea trips are automatically cancelled while a storm signal is raised over a locality.

In its extended weather outlook, PAGASA said that coastal waters off Bohol are forecast to be “rough-very rough” from Monday to Tuesday.

Cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate rains, thunderstorms and gusty winds are to be expected in the province on Tuesday.
